About 3-4 weeks ago, I began to notice that SpyBot S&D was no longer updating their program. I used to rely on them almost exclusively. When I went looking in my directories, I found 1,000's of compressed porn files in the SpyBot folder. I don't know if SPYBOT is corrupt, but I destroyed the flies, and removed SPYBOT, and then shredded them, and will never use SpyBot again. I still like, and use Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and I update it daily, but it never finds anything anymore because GhostSurf prevents it all from entering my computer. Sometime, do a search using any explicit sex-related term and see what your computer finds. Keep trying different words. Enter the word in "All files and folders", and then enter the word in "All or part of the file name:", and enter the same word in "A word or phrase in the file:". Because of the malware you've picked up somewhere....you may have some things on your PC which will horrify you. Even though YOU didn't visit those sites, they have linked to you and dumped their evil stuff on your PC. I don't want to sound too much like a TV ad for GhostSurf Pro, but it stopped all of that stuff being surreptitiously loaded onto my PC.

hey DIEGO, as a former La Jolla refugee myself, I am going to cut you some slack. But that's all. I perused you blog (no offesne, I hate most blogs). I don't know how many people it will help, but hey, its a free country. MY SUGGESTION TO YOU: Telling people to stay away from SpyBot is rather irresponsible of you. Telling people that one program is going to save the world is even worse. I am still being neighborly here, so I will state it like this: MELLOW OUT. DON'T THROW TRASH AT PEOPLE...THEY DON'T LIKE IT. THROTTLE BACK A NOTCH OR TWO AND THINK ABOUT HOW YOUR POSTS ARE COMING ACROSS. YOUR POSTS ARE NOT PLAYING WELL WITH THE CROWD. RELAX. thank you aosclay...i didnt really want advertising...i do appreciate the help in anway but i dont think its appropriate to do it here...i have come here for help getting rid of annoying unsolicited advertisments-i dont want anymore... on another note would anyone be able to look at my hijack this log and tell me if its clean? im pretty sure i got rid of whatever was bugging me but not 100%...my computer still lags a bit when i log on...

Hi AOS Clay, I live close to Wahoo's and may have a fish taco for lunch in your honor. I appreciate your comments, and I don't mean to offend any of the people who write or use the free software. I've placed secure links to the actual sources of free anti spyware software on my blog, because I once downloaded a copy of Cool Web Shredder from a corrupted site I found on the internet and had to deal with the consequences of having installed corrupted software on my PC. I am still using Ad-aware, but I no longer need any of the other free programs, because they have not worked for me for very long, singly, or in combinations. I do not know anything about SpyBot other than what I said that I found in the SpyBot folder on my PC. I removed that program and all of the other things that were in the folder with it. I apologize to everyone if I am "OVER THE TOP" in my enthusiasm for the program I referred to. It worked for me, and after weeks of frustration, I was happy to tell others about it. In less than 2 weeks it has blocked 3,442 ads,14,173 cookies, and 5,254 "images". I have not been to the naughty sites, so I don't know what they are images of, but I am happy that they have been blocked because they were being sent to my PC by someone without my knowledge or consent. (Rinska and others - My post was not an advertisement......anymore than anyone else's recommendations of their favorite free software programs is an advertisement.) Many of the posts seem to suggest that the free programs THEY "advertise" here will solve the HiJack problem. They DID NOT solve it for me. I do not think that suggesting that people use or not use a particular program is irresponsible or reprhensible unless one knows that it may cause damage, but recommends it anyway. I have not done that, and I don't believe that anyone who posts here has done that. I have stated my positive experience with a particular piece of software which I PURCHASED from the company which publishes it. So far that program has been the only one which has done what others say their favorite free programs will do. I had to PAY for it, but it has worked. Like you, and anyone who recommends something, I was happy to share my happy experience with a piece of software which is still working perfectly for me. I live a couple blocks from the wedding bowl, and I watch watch the sun set every night.....thanks for the feedback.

Hey Diego, I understand...that's why I was nice. Just wanted to let you know that people were starting to wonder. I don't want to stomp on your toes for being enthusiastic (especially if you really want to help people). So don't be downhearted. Enthusiasm is a good thing. For the record, I have had nothing but outstanding luck and success with the products I suggest to folks (including SpyBot). And I do this stuff for a living. I also understand that everybody's experience will not be the same. And YES, you are correct...be careful where you download your stuff from kids. There are all sorts of malicious sites out there that mimic or downright steal the good stuff and make it their own brand of evil. Diego's counsel in that matter was wise. (even though I said he was full of it on another thread...just because you sounded suspicious to me, bro.) But all is good. Diego, go down to the Gaslamp for me, go to Dick's Last Resort, suck some heads, eat some tails, and throw a towel at a waitress for me will ya? God I miss the coast.
