I have upgraded my Speedtouch home to a pro version and now when I run shieldsup it says all my ports are at stealth :D so does this mean I dont hafta use a firewall anymore?
I have a virus scanner(NAV 2k3) wich should see trojans and that kinda like viruses.

So just to be sure, do I need a software firewall or not ?

Thx

Hello Amster,
I don't know the program or harware you are using, but if you have the confirmation your computer is on the "stealth" mode, everything's perfect... as long as it will stay like that....normally you don't need effectively a firewall, which is doing a twice activity in your computer and takes many Megabytes of your RAM memory.
I will ask anyway more information to the speedtouch technical suport to be definitely sure with that problem....

hi amsterdamage,
i take it that the speedtouch is a dsl modem with a router included, still i would use a firewall to block outgoing data packets to be safe. for more info on cable and dsl modems go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to dsl reports, speed guide, and firewall forensics.
all the best,
murve

yep i've tried it again to be sure and everything is in stealth :D
Originally the home version didnt had a firewall but later one ppl discovered it was just one setting that had to be changed to go to the pro version of the modem.
Lame aint it,a modem that has built in firewall but doesnt support it

I'm not sure if it has a router included, how do I know ?
