hey -- I'm not sure if this is a virus or not, but last night my computer was acting funny. The machine kept crashing, just freezing whenever I would let it sit.

Later I was copying/burning cd's and a notice came up saying that my disk space was low -- though I was copying files off a cd I could imagine losing some space temporarily, but I had somehow gone from having about a gig to having only a little more than 200 megs...I restarted, and found myself with 400 megs.

I finished burning the cd's, and I checked and had my gig back. I burned another cd (I made sure to discard the files) and checked my hard drive and I was back down to 400 megs...and it's been fluctuating up and down from that number ever since...I can't figure it out.

I checked and deleted all my cookies and temporary internet files and deleted them all...which made no significant change. I also searched for files created on my hard drive in the last 1 day, and the files combined did not even make up more than a few megs...so maybe it was some kind of alteration in an already existing file?

About a month ago my PC started acting funny, I ran a scan and I found that I had a trojan in my registry...but that should be gone now that I closed off my restore files. I ran housecall scans since then and found nothing.

In any case, I've heard of viruses that gained or took up more "space" every time you emptied your recycle bin...I'm wondering it this could be something like that....

Please help!

Just to make things clear. A month ago you detected a trojan and the only action taken to clean your system was to turn off system restore? You did not use your antivirus ot anti-trojan program to detect and clean the trojan? Has your firewall had any unusual outgoing traffic requests? What antivirus program do you use, and did it fail detect the virus? I would try the trojan scan at http://www.pcflank.com/ and if it is positive i would download a trial trojan program that they highly recommend from their website.
