Hard disk space, eaten away by a virus.Help!

October 10, 2011 at 09:08:45
Specs: Windows 7
Hello everyone,

I have noticed that everyday the free disk space I have on my drive is reducing. I had twenty 20 yesterday now there are only 10 GB free. I ran a few anti-virus scans and nothing was found? Can anyone help please?

Thanks!

try Ccleaner Slim
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/bu...
remove all it finds, then click on the registry icon and remove all the uneeded registry items it finds.

Then run Malwarebytes in a full scan and fix all it finds

Thanks for your time friend, but still no good. Both cleaners found threads and cleaned them but the problem remains.. I'm confused.

ok, so what is your unit? A PC or a laptop? What AV are you running?
What total size is your HD?

It's a Dell Laptop with Windows 7 currently running Panda Anti-Virus. The total size of the HD is 195 GB.

hmmmm....if you only have 10Gb space left i would suggest you burn your pics or vids to DVD's, then delete them and then defrag the Hard Drive

Okay, done this as well. It only freed the amount of stuff I deleted and is slowly decreasing again.

Another alternative you could try would be Spybot S&D
http://www.filehippo.com/download_s...
Run a scan and fix what it finds.
Lastly,
if your windows 7 is 32Bit you can try combofix, when all else fails, this usually finds the culprits.
Be sure to follow the online guide carefully and you should be fine:
