Recently I've been having trouble with the automatic updates for AVG. Then I went to the grisoft.com website and other grisoft websites as well (grisoft.cz, etc) and I can't get these sites to load up on my browsers (I use IE and firefox). Any ideas as to why I can't connect to these sites. No one else seems to be having this problem.

I have heard that they are having server problems by people that use this forum, so you are not alone.

I just tried

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2

and it worked for me. I also trie the free download to see if it would work and it did. I would go to

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

and do an online virus scan. Have you used Adaware and Spybot to check for a spyware problem?

That was the reason I switched to Avast! 4 home edition and never looked back. Great on-line up-dates as you surf the net and it's worked great for me for 2 yrs now.

Hi ... Yankanuk you are lucky that Avast is working on your computer , Every AV programs can work very good on one computer but it might not be the case with another , For me Avast didn't do the job , Infact I got infected with a virus and Avast didn't even notice it , I found out when I did a online scan with house call , This is why I switch from Avast to AVG and so far I'm lucky with AVG its been doing what it suppose to do , So its really each to their own on what works best

Roadrunner, you are absolutely correct. I used AVG and when I switched to Avast, there were 3 viruses that had slipped through AVG and luckily I caught them. Like you said, all PC's are not the same, but I sure do like the tech support with Avast that is not there with the free AVG versions.

Still can't connect to the grisoft site, and several others for that matter in trying to resolve the issue.

I'm wondering if it's a browser problem. I'm able to connect to most sites I want to, but a few sites I frequent have caused me problems only over the past 15 days or so. Any ideas? I've tried searching for spyware, and I've also gotten rid of a few viruses that I didn't know about, but I don't think they were the problem, since they're gone now and I still can't access the sites.

Bruce,

Something you could check, would be your "HOSTS" file. It might have these sites blocked.

You say you're using WinME. So, it would be in your windows folder. That's "HOSTS", with no extensions. If you have a large hosts file, and want to see if that's the problem, without looking through it. You could rename the hosts file to hosts.old Restart the computer, and try the sites again. If it doesn't help, just rename it back to just hosts If it does help, rename it and look through it, for the sites that are blocked. Remove these/those sites, and you should be good to go.

Good Luck
