I have a grey box appearing on my desktop. Only way to get it removed is to reboot, but somewhere along it re-appears. It does not appear on the taskbar as an entity and not in the task or process manager. However, ALT+TAB reveales its name to be RUNNER. Several searches revealed nothing - regedit, HDD, antivirus, Internet (Symantec, Microsoft, etc.).

I installed some programmes, trials and games, but can't link it to any of them. The unnecessary ones I uninstalled again.

What can it be? Screendumps available on request via email.

There is an application file called Runner that I have seen appearing on new HP computers. Its (HP Connections.exe). HP Connections.exe is "Backweb" or a program that autoupdates a host of software depending on who the computer manufacturer is or which software company is applying it to their products software.

If you purchase Logitec products or get have logitec products installed on your computer when you purchase it. It will most likely have an entry in add/remove programs called Logitec Desktop Messenger which is also Backweb.

I cant say the runner file you have is Backweb. Just giving you an idea of what it could be and what you may be looking for when searching.

I normally recommend removing any Backweb programs off of a computer. It has little value if any. Runs constantly in the background searching for updates to products that really dont need updating (keyboard, mouse software, ect..), is a resource hog and problematic software.
