Google search results redirected/hijacked

Hello. When I click on my Google search results I am redirected to advertising sites. I am using Firefox 3.6.13. Additionally, at other times when I am not doing a Google search, a new tab will open and directs to an advertising site, often imitating a "your computer is infected. performing virus scan now" type of page.

Any help to remove this hijacking would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

And this is legit? Many of these other threads direct people to use ComboFix, HJT, and other various programs to find the virus and have it removed.

Start by doing a full scan with malwarebytes and fix all it finds.
Post back if that doesn't fix the problem as there are other free tools to remedy that situation

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers
