Specs: Windows Vista

Google redirects me to the wrong website - a virus. McAffee installed but ineffective. Help needed, what do I do? Many thanks in advance :)

I would get rid of McAfee anyway, that virus program has not done so well against the new threats that are out there.

Go to download.com and grab the program AVG For Free 2012, it will find the virus and kill it. Afterwards, I would download Spybot - Search and Destroy and run that and see what it finds.

Many thanks for your response. Very much appreciated. Reading the Terms & Conditions of the AVG 2012 program, however, acceptance gives my permission for a toolbar to be installed which will garner information from my laptop - if my interpretation is correct. I prefer not to download programs which include this facility. I do not understand this type of technology and therefore do not feel comfortable installing it, using my laptop in a basic way as a word processor and for searching on the internet.

Oh I understand, this toolbar however can very easily be deactivated with two clicks, which I can direct you on how to do if you like.
