Google Hijacker Virus & Internet Not Working

May 16, 2010 at 12:14:29
Specs: Windows XP
I have a virus on my computer, redirects my google searches on mozilla firefox. Ran symantec, didn't find anything. Ran malwarebytes, it didn't find anything either. I downloaded PC tools spyware doctor, it DID find something, so I let it delete whatever it was. Well, just made the virus "angry" and now I am getting error messages all over.

I unplugged my desktop from the internet so I could use my laptop, and now I can't get my desktop to connect to the internet at all.

Please help! I also tried to do a reset of my internet explorer settings, but it gives me a "Run DLL error". And when I try to debug it, I get a "debugger error".

1- DUMP Norton (use the uninstaller from their website) as fast as you can and use the following removers.
2- Trojan Remover
3- Hitman Pro.
Then I would suggest trying Avast free and get it to do a bootscan on reboot.
That should get you going.

As far as the connection problem, open internet explorer click on tools/internet options/connections/Lan Settings and make sure proxy is unchecked. Viruses do that alot.
Also reset your homepage to something like and then try connecting.

If that doesn't work you will have to download winsockfix to fix your winsock.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers

I would use ComboFix to get rid of the desktop hijack, if all else fails, and like xp said, use WinSock Fix to get the internet connection back: Both programs can be found here: and WinSockFix can be found here
