I can't even take google from yahoo.com as it leads me to the same "cpanel.com" page! I tried adaware and spybot but nothing happened. I cleared i.e cookies and history but even i connected ok. first time, when i tried again CPANEL.com again even in i.e address it writes "google.com"!! Please help get rid of this...

Reply: (edit)I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone with this one. My girlfriend's computer is experiencing the same problem. I tried the same easy fixes with the same result, and I was just about to download Spybot S&D, but I guess that won't help either. I also noticed that trying to use the search engines on Yahoo or MSN also gives me a "This page cannot be displayed" message. I will keep you informed if I find the solution for this.

Reply: (edit)This problem is crippling one of my computer labs. If anyone has a solution, please post. I've uninstalled everything but the kitchen sink program =) and adaware, sophos antivirus with newest reference files would find nothing...

Reply: (edit)Ok, let me sum up that link.... there seems to be a virus that went around, which is relatively harmless, but modifies a file called hosts. This then redirects www.google.com to a different website. Easy fix is to search for hosts (might be multiples of it, you want the one in c:/windows or c:/winnt) and then either open it and delete all the redirect junk, or you could probably just outright delete the file. It should 1kb if it hasn't been played with, *possibly* 4kb if it is the problem. If that fixes it, then good... if it happens again after that you will probably want to try to delete the virus (if it's there) should be called Qhosts-1. There's a link in the above webpage to help with the virus as well.

Reply: (edit)the above seems to not work for everyone. There seems to be other things that the virus messes with. http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-040.asp there's microsoft's fix and if that doesn't work... posts 50 and below on the above link should help with it (yikes triple post :/)

Reply: (edit)I've just had this problem on my girlfriends PC. We are on teo computers connecting the network in exactly the same way. One PC works, the other didn't. I did start run, then cmd, then ran the following command: - [c:\]dir *hosts* +h /s/p There was a hidden file in C:\windows\help called Hosts. When I edited it with Notepad it contained domain name resolutions to all the popular websites (google e.t.c) However the IP resolution it stated was incorrect hence page cannot displayed or the irritating CPANEL web page. I simply deleted the file and ran [c:\]dir *hosts* +h /s/p The only host file on the PC was the empty correct one which is in c:\windows\system32\drivers\e.t.c I tried google and hey presto it worked. Hope this helps you guys, it is a virus, luckily not a very serious one. Cheers ... Milla

Reply: (edit)I am having the same problem. A temporary fix is to type in the address bar "www.google.com." , add a period after "com" it works for me until I can find the solution

Reply: (edit)I tried the symantec fixqhost and it did not find a virus. I found and deleted 2 hosts files, every search engine list had the same IP-207.44.194.56 which is cpanel. I download and installed the microsoft update for I.E. 6.0 828750. Everything seems to work now. thanks for all the advice.
