i dont know whether any one has experienced this thing before. i am not sure whether it is a virus...but when i have any message box such as an email compose box on my browser, and i wait for a few minutes or so, randomly generated words or phrases get automatically typed in. they make no sense and usually are common prepositions or pronouns and the frequency is one in two minutes or so. it feels eerie when i am composing an email late at night. does anyone know about such a problem?

I guess that is eerie...
Do you have speech to text software installed?
In control panel...look for speech icon, open that and see if anything in there is enabled that would allow you to talk instead of type...I'm not familliar with such programs since i dont have it...but your microphone will pick up random noises including from tv, radio, etc. even a thump on the desk or chair might make it type strange stuff if the mic is set too sensitive
I would also check in the accessability options...see if anything is enabled in there...same place> control panel. I think xp has some options to enable for those with speech, hearing, vision, etc. challanges. if you dont use such software...disable those functions and ok the changes. If you use netmeeting or the voice chat in msn disabling anything from above won't affect it ..you will still be able to use it normally.

Good luck and hope that gets rid of the ghost

I agree with blender.

You haven't turned off XP's built in voice recognition software.
