I have used hijackthis, adawarepro, plus anitvirus and no luck. also tried searching registry for anything like that and no luck they must have put it under some other name. any ideas?

VIPRE Rescue Program
Try it in Safe mode.
If it won't run, rename the downloaded mbam-setup.exe file to mb.exe to help work around certain malware that will block it from being run.
If it still will not run.
1: Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall Malwarebytes.
Next redownload Malwarebytes but rename it before you download it to your desktop. As you are in the process of downloading when you get to the point that the "enter name of file to save to" box appears, in the "filename" slot, rename mbam-setup.exe to something.exe, then click Save.
If it installed but will not run, navigate to this folder:
2: C:\Programs Files\Malwarebytes' AntiMalware
At the top of the page, Tools > Folder Options > View, click > Show hidden files and folders and untick > Hide extensions for known file types.
How to see hidden files in Windows
Rename all the .exe files in the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder and try to run it again.
When it opens, update 1st.
If it won't update after installing, update manually.

thank you. I tried this and did a quick scan and removed all the bad files they listed
and rebooted. It went as far as the windows xp logo "starting windows " then it restarted again from scratch. it went like this a couple of times then opened to try to get me to start in safe mode. the only way to fix this was to go in safe mode to a system restore. this brought it back to booting up but of course nothing was fixed.
I am reinstaling this and changing the exe file to another name and will run it in safe mode this time. I guess I should do a complete scan this time.
any idea why it wouldnt let me boot up?

"any idea why it wouldnt let me boot up?"

The infection outsmarted it, your job now is to find a way to outsmart it.

Here are more ways & tools to try. Included are Combofix, Unhackme & others, all very good, but the badies are always ahead of the goodies.
