Could anyone tell me whether I should or not allow traffic from/to Generic Host Process for Win32 using Sygate Personal Firewall and WinXP-Pro? I don't know what to do with it!!!

I use Sygate Home and I had to get this answer after I started using SP2....I got this answer from the Sygate forums:

Set “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services” (svchost.exe) in the running applications window to allow.

Right click on Sygate in the system tray go to applications… > right click on “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services” (svchost.exe) go to advanced… > uncheck “Act as Server” then ok.

That will allow you to get windows updates and won't harm your system

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL! Glad to have a chance to help you.

Only reason I have found to allow it is to download windows updates. Microsoft recently changed to a more secure updater(V5).

I set “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" to "allow" when checking for updates then block it the rest of the time. No problems
