Comment:

I was just reading on a newsletter I received about a new free search engine, Blinkx. I was wondering if anyone has heard of it or seen it, and to get an opinion if it is a safe search engine.

The newsletter I received had an attitude about using this search engine was "a wait and see thing".

Thanks.

Be careful, free search engines can be loaded with spyware and browser hijacks. How could it be better than Yahoo, Google, and the other established engines?

Does sound interesting:

"Although Blinkx search responds to user behavior, the firm makes no record of usage and maintains user anonymity. Blinkx does not serve paid or commercial results except in the shopping channel -- placement in the shopping channel is the company's primary revenue stream."

I would run away from Blinkx as fast as I can. I read just a few sentences and got scared. Thanks, Jboy for the link.

Some scary stuff out there folks so watch what you download and install on your box.

Caution is the watchword, for sure. It really does sound interesting, but I'm happy to let others experiment first ; )

Apparently it's still in beta.

I recall when Google first came out though - folks were pretty scornful at the time, now it's #1 & the owners are billionaires (and then there's that whole 'big brother' thing)

I started using Google before it became main stream. I remember when Hotbot was the best search engine in town. Still, Blinkx will be a wait and see for me.

Actually, i downloaded Blinkx two weeks ago and I haven't had a single problem with adware. it's fast and really helfpul- it's the first tool to come out with the 'smart folders' function, which basically does all my research for me by scouring the web for similar files to cache on my hard drive.
