Hi Everyone,
The last cpl times I have made an attempt to use the free TrendMicro Housecall virus scan, I have been unable to............
I have been getting a message pop-up saying that the Housecall Active X is not ready or whatever? It doesn't matter how long I wait - everytime I try to run a scan I get the same message over and over again.......
I am wondering though, if it has anything to do with what I experienced on MSN Messenger the day before yesterday? One of my friends on there (apparently) had been sending me something having to do with JenniferLopez . scr? Nortons would find the Serf log . A thingy and quarentine it. I made sure to delete it from quarentine & disabled system restore, ran Norton's - and nothing came up.
Anyway, any insight will be very appreciated!
Thanks,
Jodie

Thanks Keltik,
I went to Panda Software, downloaded what I was supposed to, then when it came time to scan my computer, nothing happened. I clicked on "All of my computer", but no scanning window came up or anything. I tried twice, so I don't know what's up with that.
If you have any other ideas please pass them on. I have never had any problems before in regards to using online scans. My Nortons still works, but not having any back-up sucks.
Thx again,
Jodie

hi again,
ok what to do ..what to do.first go to start>>run >type in msconfig go to
the startup tab on the end top right.look for any wird lettering like qieyur.exe, crap that looks similar to that.uncheck what you do not recognize for now.<reminder nortons may have 3 up tp 8 processes or more in there>uncheck them.will ask you to reboot.say no for now.download stinger then reboot to safe mode.to enter safe mode either press f8 or f2 depending on your computer and select safe mode.run stinger and nortons, not at the same time.

Keltik,
Don't have time to do that right now, but will later on this afternoon. I am pretty sure that everything that is in start-up is supposed to be in there though............ will copy and paste here when I get the chance.
Thanks again, I really, really appreciate your help in this matter.
Will get back to you as soon as I can!

One more scan you may want to try on-line is www.sarc.com
That usually works for me. You have to stay on-line through the whole scan, even if it shows your modem is not working and also you can't do any surfing while it's scanning. Depending on your drive size it could take quite awhile.
Hope that helps.

Hey Keltik & Sally,
Thanks for both of your replies!!! You're both awsome!
I tried everything you've suggested - still getting that, "Housecall ActiveX component is not ready" message though......... what a bummer :o(
I tried Panda and the same thing happened as before.
Stinger worked though! Found nothing on my puter though......... so don't know what's up with that, lol. Hope to figure it out soon.
Thanks again,
Jodie

hi jodie,
by any chance you have sp2 installed????
if you do you may need to turn off the active x.in explorer go to tools>>internet options>>security>custom level>enable automatic prompting for active x controls.

try house call again.thats only if you have sp2 installed.
also check in explorer tools>>internet options>general tab>settings>>view objects if you see anything there that has trend micro or house call in it delete it.

try house call again.do both of these before running housecall,if you have any of this.

Sounds to me that possibly your active X isn't set correctly in the internet tools/options/security, but I can't remember off hand how to set it up correctly.

Could it have gotten changed after the problem you had?

I'm not ignorant, I just need more learning!

Hi again,
Sorry took so long to get back to you both - been pretty busy........
I went into tools>>internet options>>security>custom level> and made sure that the enable automatic prompting for active x controls was checked off. Didn't work.
Anyway, I just went into security and clicked on the default button, tried do Housecall again and still got same stupid message? I dunno.......
As for your suggestion Keltik, I did have a look in explorer tools>>internet options>general tab>settings>>view objects and I did see something about Housecall in there. There was something else in there called Active Scan installer or whatever, but I think that has something to do with one of the other online virus scans I tried.
Should I delete the Housecall Control thingy that's in there though?
I noticed that TrendMicro has a new look? and that there were a couple of different scans you can choose from now - could that be the reason I haven't been able to use it?
Many thanks,
Jodie
