Free AVG - any good?

Would anyone care to explain to me what the advantages of the free AVG are over Noton AntiVirus 2001.

I already have Norton but keep hearing a lot of good things about this AVG. Is it worth downloading and using instead of or as well as (not at the same time!)Norton?

Its less overhead, regular updated signiture files, free for personal use, it works.

It's curtainly worth downloading and trying out.

If you don't like it just go back to Norton's. Make sure you disable auto-load on Norton's before you install AVG or there may be a clash between them.

Lesley,
I'm runnin both NAV 2001 and AVG, have been for a while.
I downloaded it (AVG), disabled norton, installed AVG ...ran it, re enabled
Norton ...ran both together.
Never had a moments trouble from the two together. I do everything manually ( updates etc ) in Norton and just left AVG as it came.
No discernable drop in resources either :)

Although running 2 AVs at once may work, but it is recommended by the vendor to use only one AV, otherwise you may get conflicts, etc.
As I said, it may work...try it for yourself

AVG is one of the best Anti-viruses out.
I have tried most all of them. AVG updates
are great.I haven't had one problem with this Anti-Virus program. Unlike the other two.

AVG is the best free thing on the earth. I am told by a guru that it has 85-90% detection rate. Though this is slightly less than Norton's 98%, the best part of it is that it is totally free for home users. Its interface is most user-friendly, and its handling the easiest. It installs and uninstalls without any hiccups, and its regular updates keep your piece neat and clean.

We need such things on earth folks!

Free AVG is brilliant. I run AVG and Norton both on my PC at work. I haven't had a problem. I run AVG on my home computer and have been saved from evil attachments (it won't let you download them). I love it!
