Comment: Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me of any good antivirus programs. I used to use AVG a while back, and I just went to install it, but I saw it is no longer being supported, and trial versions are only for 30 days. The reason I bring this up is because everytime my computer trys to d/l an SP2 update, I get an error report. This time I decided to send it. It came back saying this from this website: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=08babf41-99a7-4f59-96c2-5fa47b489356&SID=227 Virus Alert Thank you for submitting an error report. The error was likely caused by: W32/Pate.b.worm Virus To prevent this problem from occurring again, we highly recommend you install and run an up-to-date anti-virus application to detect and fix this computer virus issue. Thanks

Reply: (edit)For now, go to Trend Micro's website and perform their online, free scan. Takes a few minutes, but its good and thorough. I have put Avast AV on several of my friend's computers, and so far works fine. Reply: (edit)Actually, Tim, AVG released it's new Free Edition (7.0) last month. It is still free...only the versions before 7.0 are not supported and require payment. The new version is also much better. The interface is far superior to earlier editions. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/

Reply: (edit)Avast is very good & it includes automatic updates though you need to register (for free) after 30 days. Antivir is also very good (http://www.free-av.com/) - you have to do manual updates but there's no registration involved. AVG7 has got its initial bugs ironed out and is a straight download now rather than having to register to get the link. Be a bit careful with 'time limited' trials, they can be a pain to uninstall completely. "I know that I'm mad - I've always been mad..."
