hey all, this is a right nightmare, basically i had some problems uninstalling one antivirus app then installed another on top, rendering my system unprotected for a while.
I formatted my C drive which windows was installed on then reinstalled it, did a scan on C immediately after a clean install and there was tons of viruses namely one called 'Virus.Win32.Parite.b' these were detected after i installed kaspersky antivirus btw.
My question is does this virus really spread that fast as in i click a few things and BAM 100s of infections in the space of a few clicks, or a brief moment on the net without a antivrus app installed is a big enough time window for a hacker to bombard me with this virus?
it seems to have infected all EXEs i just hope it hasnt infected the data i backed up on dvd, took ages doing that.
one more thing on the first boot of the clean windows install the background image would popup but explorer wouldnt start as in no taskbar or icons etc, but if i closed explorer then used ctrl alt del then run as, and started it up again it worked, but then there were still some internet browser crashes, not too welcome when u think ur rid of this beast, anyway since installing and using kaspersky to clean out 500 (and counting at the time of typing this) of Virus.Win32.Parite.b my system is waaaay more stable, im wondering can a virus migrate from one HDD to another without executing any files?
Ok i think ive sorted out the 800+ Virus.Win32.Parite.b infections it seems that kaspersky does work really well, if you own norton or pccillin, DESTROY them they dont work for s---.
kaspersky is the only one thorough and efficient enough to detect and also disinfect files without having to delete them or the ones that ur not sure will affect system stability
"can a virus migrate from one HDD to another without executing any files?"
Unlike their real world counterparts, no, they are not transmitted by 'contact' - all a virus is is a rogue program, and must be executed to perform its nefarious task. There are many ways this can be accomplished, but most fall under 'social engineering' - convincing you to infect yourself
Adopt safe internet & file practices, as well as basic AV monitoring and you'll avoid much grief
"kaspersky is the only one thorough and efficient enough..."
I'm doubtful that you are qualified to make that rather sweeping pronouncement - no application is perfect. I prefer Kaspersky myself, but I've seen it miss known infected files - you're only as secure as your last update (if that)
I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.
