Comment: Hey all. so my 'My Documents' folder will not stop opening and taking the focus...meaning ill be talking online and would have to click back to the window to continue to type then it will steal focus again, making it incredibly frustrating. if i exit it out, it will open it back up in a couple mins. i have used almost every spyware and virus software and it isnt finding anything. if u have ANY suggestions lemme know PLEASE!! THANKS!! j

Reply: (edit)You may have a corrupted registry entry. Run regedit and navigate to: HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Winlogon In there there should be a value (on right hand side of screen) called Userinit. The data for this value is probably something similar to: C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe, If you do see a duplicated string in there similar to the above - simply double click on the Userinit value and edit the data so as to delete everything to the right of the first comma (,). In the case above you would leave only: C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe, Exit registry edit and reboot.

Reply: (edit)Probably best to do a repair. ReInstalling WindowsXP http://www.onecomputerguy.com/windowsxp_tips.htm If you need to reinstall WindowsXP and want to keep all your current installed applications and settings: 1. Start WindowsXP 2. Go to the location of your source files 3. Run WINNT32 /unattend For example, D:\I386\winnt32 /unattend ( copy & paste this command into the RUN box, then press ENTER ) Your computer will do the rest. Or, Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. Copy & paste > D:\I386\winnt32 /unattend Press Enter. If you have i386 on your drive, you can replace D: ( if D: is your cd drive ) with the location of it.

Reply: (edit)ya thats what i meant, it only contained the "C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe," once. but anyways, so copy and pasting that command line in the prompt will just reinstall windows xp and not reformate? like i wouldnt have to reinstall drivers and all that right? im also assuming the windows xp cd is also needed for the process too? thanks a lot!! :D jeff

Reply: (edit)"and not reformate?like i wouldnt have to reinstall drivers and all that right?" That's right. i386 is XP, if you have a very large i386 ( about 400mb or more ) on your hard drive you can use that, otherwise use your XP cd.
