Comment:

I have been infected with an improved version of the Codec virus.

So this website (computing.net) actually has the best information I''ve found for dealing with this codec virus:

http://www.computing.net/answers/se...

The rest of the internet is recommending that I simply download Super, rather than helping me get rid of the problem.

Anyway, the virus scanner recommended here is not working. It is shut down as soon as it launches, I can assume by the virus.

I have PC-Cillan running, which is quarantining autorun files every minute or so. I think these files may be related to the virus's MO of selling me a virus scanner, so that's not popping up.

However, the first 5(ish) times the files were quarantined, they appeared in PC-Cillan's quarantine popup window. After that, they stopped appearing in there. This makes me feel uneasy.

So how do I get rid of this thing? Help!
