I have some virus problem. I think I got Msblast worm on one of my computers. The computer kept restarting spontaneously.
I wanted to clean the entire hard disk, so I reinstalled the OS (XP). During the installation, the symptom still occured. I reinstalled the OS after many attempts. The PC still did the same. It just shut down and restart all the sudden by itself. I didn't find any msblast.exe on the hard disk.
Next I installed Windows ME to see if there was any difference. It was still the same. A few days ago, I downloaded FixBlast.exe from Symantec. It runs but crushes when it does scan "Temporary Internet Files".
I don't know if the virus doing all this, or it's just because the hard disk is damaged.
I'm not a computer expert, so I need some advise from someone. Please help!
Thank you for your time...

hi nack,
here' a manual fix for the blaster worm. try it out.
Disable system restore on all XP systems, or ME system.
Download and run this removal tool from Nortons Antivirus using the link blelow.http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html
If while running the tool you get the message that your computer is going to shut down " Click Start, Run, type Shutdown.exe -A in the box to stop the shutdown.Search the C:\Windows\System32 folder for the files MSBLAST.EXE, & teekid.exe, and delete them.
Download and install the Patch for your Operating System from Microsoft Q823980 from link below:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823980
Last but not least update your latest Nortons Virus Definitions to the latest version, scan your computer, and reinstall system restore.
hope this helps,
murve
