Firewall/Pop-up problems

Specs: Windows XP SP2, 1 Gb
I have recently acquired a few problems on my laptop which I believe have all come from a single 'virus' issue. It started about a week ago and includes the following probs:

1. windows firewall not starting automatically on startup (I have no other firewall running and the windows one starts fine if I switch it on manually)

2. No access to any local drives unless i right click and go to 'explore'. I have since resolved this one issue by using Autorun Eater which deleted three "suspicious autorun.inf files".

3. When using Google and clicking on a link after a search, the window that pops up is always to a completely different website such as MySpace, ebay or some other less common ones. If I shut the window and click the same link again the correct website loads although it does seem slower to load the site initially than usual.

Thats all I can think of at the moment, I am running ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0.684.0 and have Ad-Aware Anniversary edition. Neither of these seem to find anything when I perform a scan, even in safe mode. I can only assume that the virus is web-related or has come from my ipod which is sometimes shared with friend's PCs (though they have no problems)

Any help would be very greatly received.

Many thanks
