We all have our favorites at this forum. I have used Sygate, and have installed it on several friends and relatives computers that were into gaming. The end result of Sygate's rules make it as secure as Zone Alarm. When XP first came out, I had several problems with Zone Alarm Pro and switched to Sygate. I only went back, because I had paid for Zone Alarm and those problems have all been resolved. I know use Zone Alarm Plus, because I find the add and privacy options unnecessary, and not worth the extra cost of ZA Pro. If you want add blocking, Agnitum's Outpost firewall does it for free. Read the reviews and test results at PC Flank, Wilders.Org and thepublicworks. If you want the firewall with the least system resources, then Kerio is the one to get. All the best!

I found Sygate to eat up resources on my machine. The probable reason is that it does too much unnecessary checking. I use McAfee Firewall and found it uses less resources than any other while being very efficient and simple to use (it was cheap too at the time).

hi rich,
sygate pro and zone alarm pro are very good firewalls, but come at a cost both monitary and space wise(memory hogs). the best firewall out today is Look n Stop and Kerio, both of these are small in footprints while Look n Stop costs and Kerio is free. both of these are rule based where as zone alarm is application based. for more info on firewalls go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to firewall guide, firewall net, firewalls and security, and if you are interested in combining your firewall with a router for great security go to pratically networked. also check out pcflank and wilders.org there's some good info there also.
all the best,
murve
