Like the title said, why can't there be three firewalls?

I have WinXP's original firewall and installed 2 more, but after I restarted and connected to the internet, my browser always tell me that the web page is not available.

I decided to uninstall the third firewall, and reboot my computer. After rebooting, I connected again, but this time, my browser loaded the page to the end.

Why in the world would you use three firewalls? I use a Linksys hardware firewall and have XP's built in software firewall enabled as well but I would never use two different software firewalls at the same time.

Running two different products that do the same thing can cause problems. Just as running two different AV scanners will at times cause conflict. I am sure one can have three firewalls running at the same time on the same system but it is not needed.

KTTD

Though I walk through the valley of Microsoft, I shall fear no OS for skills are with me

The ZoneAlarm FAQ states to run only 1 software firewall or there will be conflicts.

That's the question. I mean, why can't we set-up three firewalls instead of two?

I'm setting up three, because a month ago, while I was surfing the net, my firewall displayed a message, that there was a virus that entered my computer, I don't know why, so I viewed the logs, the logs didn't show the port where the virus came from, but it sure tells that it used ICMP echo request. So, I mean, two firewalls aren't enough. BTW I am not using any service pack, so if I have service pack 2, maybe I don't need three firewalls.

Due to the fact of competing authority, talk about confusing. A good set-up for home DSL or cable is an NAT box like LINKSYS and ZONE ALARM FREE.

Hi Ry Spy (like the handle):

Like KTTD says, "why would you want to run three?" I run a Linksys hardware firewall like KTTD but I am using NIS. As long as I only use 1 hardward and 1 software solution I am OK. But, If I use 2 hardware solutions OR 2 software solution I have problems.

Stick to one of each and you should be fine.
