Comment: I have V-COM System Suite 5 previously know as Fix It Utilities. It has a firewall and anti virus program in it plus some other things. It shows that the firewall is powered by Sygate Tech. Do all firewall's slow the internet down? When I use my IE it all seems fine but when I use AOL it slows it down. When I disable it AOL flys. I know the firewalls are important but is there anything other then them to secure your computer?

Reply: (edit)Michelle: A properly configured firewall should not affect your computer's performance in the slightest. A firewall's function is to protect (stealth) your PC's ports from intrusion. From your post, it sounds like there's a conflict between AOL's software and V-COM System Suite 5. I'd suggest contacting AOL's Tech Support and have them offer assistance. Good luck, Solarian

Reply: (edit)PS: No, no other software will perform the function of a firewall. You can use a router (hardware) for additional protection, but a router by itself is not enough. However, together, they make a great combination when properly configured.
