I have been having a terrible time (some may recall my earlier post about this 1 week ago) , I have been getting attacking over and over again , now its a battle to stay connected on the net for more than 1/2 an hour . I have emailed my ISP as well.

The attacks I have been getting are:

*Traceroute
*NetBIOS Browsing
*Smurfs (in relation to the got a question topic)
*Ping

Now the question I have is what are these attacks and in what way could they threaten the security of my computer.

thanks

You don't say what firewall you're using. If it's the XP firewall I would recommend you use Zone Alarm (there's a free version). Then, Go to Shields Up (find on Google), and run the test to make sure all ports are stealthed. Then run updated AdAware, SpyBot S&D, and Anti-Virus. Outsiders hitting your firewall is normal, and as long as your firewall is stopping them, not a problem. The pings are probably fromo your ISP.
