Subject: Finding a suitable driver
OS: MCE
CPU/Ram: 1.8
Model/Manufacturer: Gateway
Comment:
Hiya,

I am trying to secure my system from any type of malicious scripting and am having a few problems.

The first being that my BIOS does not have a virus protection.

The second is that when I go to my manufacturers site, Gateway, it lists that the BIOS version that it has on the laptop now, and the same one they have to offer for a download, is not compatible with my os, which is MCE 2005(XP Pro). It says on the site that it works with vista.

This is the link for the Gateway driver site.

http://support.gateway.com/support/...

My BIOS is a phoenix 68.04. I went to www.phoenix.com and am having some problems trying to locate that driver, or any other bios driver.

Is there a way to find a compatible bios driver and will a virus protection program in the virus prevent any scripting?

I have problems with my computer that only a reload will overcome. Lately I have been unplugging my laptop and carring it with me wherever I go. That seems to have solved that problem, but when the work season for me begins again, I would like to have less problems with the computer.

I have been using the password option, but there is no use. Sometimes when I come home, there is a icon on the burner drive, indicating someone has either burnt or forgot to remove whatever from that drive.

Thanks for your help...

In July 2007 you asked about using some kind of software to reload the OS (Click me). Then earlier this month you asked about how to set up Windows SteadyState (Click Me). Now you are asking about wanting something that I doubt ever exists. Nowhere at the Gateway page you provided mentioned anything along your line of description. What is it that you really want done?

To recap with THIS thread ...

I have been using the password option, but there is no use.

Care to elaborate?

Sometimes when I come home, there is a icon on the burner drive, indicating someone has either burnt or forgot to remove whatever from that drive.

This tells us that you are not living all by yourself and that someone who live with you has access to your computer.

huh,

boy do I feel stupid

I do not know why the copy paste did not work but here it is again.

ha, I see that my writing is not so clear

How can someone have access if there is a password that is required to bypass the BIOS?

ok that last one won't work , but if you copy paste the second message link, then select the driver download link, it will take you to the page where the BIOS can be found.

I am guessing that because I am using the computer, it will only show me that it is not compatible with my os.

So, until I can get my hands on Vista, I guess I would like to know if a BIOS with a antivirus protection will disable any scripting before the os is started.

I realize that if someone wants to tamper with the computer, they can always manually run a 2.5 hardrive cable and manipulate the system that way, but I would like to do what I can to secure the system.

I use containers to save my work and stuff and average a os reload 1/week. I don't loose any documents or programs, but when the system starts acting up by getting tooooo slow(especially for a newer system) it is just time consuming to reload, know what I mean?
