Solved Files disappeared after generic23.azrn Trojan

November 4, 2011 at 20:16:05
Specs: Windows 7
I found the generic23.azrn trojan with AVG, it said the file name was 'wevtapi.dll' (in Windows7), I was getting error messages about my ram and file indexing - the first thing I did when it attacked was use SpyBot to clean-out about 150 extra temp files...

So I am missing many folders, some of which were so big I didn't back them up, but there wasn't time for them to be deleted, they all disappeared at the same time, like what's being shown is only part of what's there... any clues for me to find my files again?

I would download and run malwarebytes and do another full scan just to be sure your pest is gone. In most cases your files are not gone, they have most likely been converted to "hidden folder" if you go to the control panel, under folder options, make sure "show hidden files" is checked. click apply and see if your folders show up but look faded. You then manually unhide these folders by right clicking and changing the properties or their is a program I found that automatically does them all. If I can find where I got it....I'll send the link.

here is the link

The trouble with unhide is it unhides all folders even the system folder. That will not affect the operation at all but someone may accidentally delete something they shouldn't.

Thank you, it worked! I used the unhide app also which saved me hours, there were about 1000 photoshop files in 50 folders.

Seriously, I am eternally grateful, that was a lot of missing pixels!

Best Regards
