Specs: Windows XP
I have a virus or spyware on my computer which appears to be a fake Windows Security Center telling me to download "Antimalware". It has pop-ups on my desktop about every minute. I cant seem to get with normal anti-virus programs. What should I do?

You can sometimes stop it before it launches if you're quick to start the Task Manager during Windows startup. It will be acting as a process named something like 12345.exe - kill this process and then there is the chance to install spyware removal. I know a lot of people suggest Spyware Doctor, but it will insist on a subscription before it removes anything, so you could try one of the free ones such as Spybot S&D or Lavasoft's Ad-Aware. If you have CCleaner installed (also freeware), you can use it to prevent the virus exe from launching at startup.
