fake virus alert, redirects internet

October 31, 2010 at 14:44:00
Specs: Windows XP
I have a computer with a virus that keeps popping up saying virus detection and it redirects internet explorer. the virus popups are not from my mcafee, it is the virus. It also has disabled mcafee and removed dlls, such as user32.dll. I have been able to partially remove the virus, however it keeps reinfecting. Mcafee is up to date with latest patches and definitions, but doesn't show a virus. Malwarebytes is up to date, it will find and remove viruses, only to be reinfected. I don't even know the name of this virus, however at one time it had installed a progam smart engine. It also won't allow task manager to run, windows update, and now I am getting data execution errors. Other than wiping the drive, what can I do?

try these free cleaners in this order
1- rkill.exe
2- tdss killer
3- Malwarebytes (full scan)
Run those till they are clean and then run these
4- Trojan remover
5- Hitman Pro
Run them till they are clean and then uninstall 4&5 in all programs....not in add/remove

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
