Hello,
I seem to have been hit with a virus that creates a file called explorer.exe. I've installed and run Norton, which detects this file as a virus, but won't quarrantine or delete it (not very useful!). I can't delete it manually, as I get access denied - even though no tasks seem to be running.
I can't believe I need to go through the pain of reformatting and reinstalling - again.
Anyone seen this before?

Try a free online scan, to clean or
find the name of the virus.

Hello,

You are possibly infected with Lovegate.G worm. Try Solo Antivirus {www.srnmicro.com} I have recommended few of my friends and it worked great.

hi blavin,
for more info on the file explorer.exe go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to simovits consulting once there link to trojans by filename, scroll down to explorer.exe.
also once at thepublicworks, you may want to link to regprot and download their free registry monitor, also link to wilders.org and download a free 30 trial of Trojan Hunter and scan your machine.
hope this helps,
murve

You get "access denied" only because windows is using it. Reboot with a DOS disk (or to command prompt) and you can delete the file and be done with it.
