k......i m gonna help you with this.......i too experienced this 1 yrs before......
first you gonna run task manager and kill following process if exist.......
"regsrv.exe","chrome.exe","ssvchost.exe","New Folder.exe"...
your pc would have several exe virus files named same as the name of the folder.....such as "c:/kk/kk.exe".....
and all plugged in usb would have been infected with autorun.inf and new folder.exe with a folder icon.........
if above mentioned process are present in your task manager then post back.......than i will tell how to remove tham......

ed12309, Click Start>Run then copy & paste:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Click OK.

That is Method 1 from the link I posted in my first reply.

Navigate to the following location:

User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System

In the Settings pane, locate the Prevent access to registry editing tools option, and then double-click on it to open the settings dialog.

Now the Registry Is Enabled.........

gpedit.msc is only available on Windows XP Pro edition not Home edition. Have you tried a System Restore to the closest date prior to when this problem started> Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

I suggest you stop listening to multiple people and follow one person's advice. On the side note can you run this in safe mode and post your scan results. Also if this is case of virus you shouldn't screw up your registry with out removing virus first... its like digging your own grave.

Download and run Kaspersky AVP tool: http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com...
Once you download and start the tool:

# Check below options:

    * Select all the objects/places to be scanned.
    * Settings > Customize > Heuristic analyzer > Enable deep rootkit search

# Click Scan
# Fix what it detects
# Attach Scan log/Summary to your next message.
