For no apparent reason my browser (explorer 8.0) will not connect to any web sites other than secure (https) sites. I tried to do a system recover, my internet connection is fine, I've reset my internet settings to default and Verizon wireless walked us through all the tests and nothing works.

I'm baffled!!

I would try unloading IE8 (which I've done many times lately as IE8 is extremely slow at times, especially opening up) and reverting back to IE7. You will have to re-download your critical updates.
Also check your firewall and anti-virus to see if they are blocking it.
Try tools/internet options and putting IE on the safe list.

Have you tried any alternate browsers like Firefox, google chrome or opera?
Maybe see if they connect for you, then you can try getting IE working. Good Luck

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

someone mentioned my firewall/security settings, said something to the effect of needing higher security settings so I went into my internet security software (trendmicro) and up'ed my settings and now it's working. not too sure what exactly did it but I'm getting onto all sites now so...I'm wondering if maybe a windows security update may have affected my settings in some way.

thanks for the quick responses as always, I love this site and all your help!!!
