I am running an exchange server in Win Server 2003 and need some better spam/virus filters. I have enabled the Intelligent Message Filter and regularly update it, but a significant amount of spam still gets through. I know there are a decent amount of commercial products, but I dont have the money to spend $20-30 per user. Any suggestions on how improving this?

Hi, Exchange servers are always expensive. Sometime its worth paying for good filtering because of the amount of time wasted dealing with spam & viruses. Google's Postini is a fantastic spam/virus filtering service. Price starts from $12 per user per year. For my money, I would have to suggest any of the Barracuda spam filter products. They are costly, but well worth it. All of the clients where we have installed these have seen a 95%-98% reduction in the amount of spam that gets through. Depending on the number of users you have, this might be a more cost effective solution as it is a central appliance and can filter for the entire domain or even multiple domains.
