Below is a copy of an enquiry I posted at the AVG Free Forum, however it has not elicited any responses.

_ After an OS [Win.XP Home Edit. SP2] clean install about a week ago I installed AVG7 Free Edition, as I had used it previously and found it to my liking.
However on 5 occasions since I have found this Event Viewer entry:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: AVG7
Event Category: Fatal
Event ID: 100
Date: 15/01/2005
Time: 7:18:53 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: WDGR
Description:
2005-01-15 09:18:53,515 WDGR [001324:001524] FATAL 000 AVG7.AM.WSC.CServiceModule unhandled exception caught (299, Wed Sep 22 00:51:41 2004)

What does it mean?
As far as I am aware AVG is working as intended - as is everything else. _

When I previously used AVG7 the OS was SP1.
Since posting to the AVG forum another 4 E. Viewer entries have been logged.

Can anyone here shed any light on the matter?

Ok let's try a shot in the dark

The only thing that stands out is the WSC which is usually linked to attachments that may contain malicious code.

So is that part of the e-mail scanner that scans for them properly installed?

Did you configure the e-mail scanner when you installed AVG ?

To check look at the E-Mail scanner in the control centre it should say e-mail scanner is fully functional
You should also get this on the bottom of all e-mails

No virus found in this incoming message.
Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
Version: 7.0.300 / Virus Database: 265.6.13 - Release Date: 16/01/2005

Anybody any other Ideas?

UPDATE:

I have since discovered the error message is only generated when AVG7 Alert Manager Server [avgamsvr.exe in Task Manager] is set to manual rather than automatic and the OS is SP2.
Previous to updating to SP2 I used the manual setting witout ever receiving this error message, as is still the case with my other machine which is still SP1.
I did not install the E-Mail Scanner component.

Have you thought of posting this to the programming forum as they might shed a bit more light on the subject, but the links below will give you a brief idea as to what the CServiceModule does.

Can I ask as to why you chose not to install the E-mail scanner ?

I didn't install the E-mail scanner as I understand it only works if an e-mail client is used.

I don't use an e-mail client, so haven't any need of said component.
