Ran Spybot S&D, it finished and said:
"Error during check
Xuron55 [Datei C:\WINDOWS\win.ini kann nic..."

This is a scan on a brand new install of XP, I never ran across this before, is there something wrong with the latest Spybot update?

I have been having ongoing problems with SPYBOT, and have deleted it (everything associated also) and re-installed several times. Whenever I run the program, my CPU usage = 100% and totally locks up my PC. It does not run to completion and I have to Power Cycle my pc to recover. SPYBOT worked wonders for me for about 8 months, then this started happening. Out of all the spyware programs i have used since, SPYBOT was the best//most efficient. It is still operational--to a point--as far as detecting most viruses, but useless for all intents and purposes.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, it does nothing (nor do any other spyware tools) for the most current problem I have (& many others from what I gather) AURORA!!!!!!! F'in virus changes my register entries, start-up programs, logs on as unknown user & generally sends so many pop-ups that my PC is inoperable unless I run it in SAFE mode, which is what i'm doing right now.

I see many, many so-called "solutions" & have only just begun to try them. IF ANYONE KNOWS A REAL!!! FIX TO GET RID OF THIS CRAP, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ EMAIL ME and POST IT HERE, OK?

many, many thanx in advance,

(i have Win xp, run firefox (altho got this in IE when I visited some site related to American Idol--something with "www.g-a-o-d" in the title. DON'T EVEN DARE TO TRY THAT LINK!!!!) I've got the latest SP2, use incredimail (in lieu of Yahoo), I've tried almost every spyware scanner available.

deepsigh..........

Can't help much but just think it likely that whatever nasty you have on board is probably the reason SpyBot won't run. A lot of malware disables protection.

If you haven't done so already, download and run "MS Anti-Spyware" and this free trojan finder/fixer:

Try runing Spybot S&D and Adaware 1.05SE from safe mode update before runing, don't forget to disable System restore. A2free, Ms's Spyware are both good.
If all else fails download HighJackThis get a log and copy and paste it here.

itmdtr,

Do you know where you might have gotten infected with aurora? I'm looking for URLs that are infecting people with this crap.

Thanks for any help with the research.

Regards,

Suzi
