Error formatting hard drive

Hi,
I wish to format my c drive as it's full of virus ..however while formatting in command prompt where i typed format c: or format c:\s its says the data is raw or incomplete parameters ...pls advice how should i solve this problem!

You can't format the C drive from within Windows. You'll have to boot to your XP CD, and perform a new install, formatting the partition in the process.

i am not able to perform install from xp cd..when i boot from cd it shows "press any key to boot from cd" and then when i hit enter/space key nothing happens.a black screen with cursor blinking..
