Enable windows log on

February 22, 2009 at 05:13:13
Specs: Windows XP
during attempts to remove a virus from
computer with Microsoft XP installed, the log
on feature appears to have been disabled.
When attempting to log on with any account,
the settings are loaded and the chosen
wallpaper appears but before the desktop is
fully loaded the settings are saved and the
account is logged off.
This happens when starting up windows
normally and in safe mode. The administrator
account in safe mode does not have a password
but still unable to log on.
How can this be resolved if I can not log on
to change registry settings.

It is probably a damaged winlogon.exe file and you should try to replace it first but could be the userinit.exe file.

Do a google search for how to replace these files. There are several ways to replace them but they all call for a boot cd and it will depend on what you have as a windows reinstall cd as to what method you need to use.
