I opened up an email that looked safe and it said that it had an attachment...upon opening the email there was no attachment visible so therefore is it possible that it was a virus and could I get it even if I didnt open the attachment. Im doing a scan now to be on the safe side.

More likely than not, your ISP has a virus scanner enabled on their mail server and it deleted the attachment becuase it ws infected by a virus.

My ISP does not do that.. however.. I have many, many precaustions in place to prevent such an act.
