Simply put, my computer rejects certain internet connections. Everytime I try to log onto any of my e-mails on IE, it gives me "This Page Cannot be Displayed" window and Firefox states that the connection was refused. All my files on my HD are okay however.

As well, I did have Norton (re-installed once to check.) and tried to scan my computer but everytime I try to start it up it says NMAIN.EXE - Application Error. So then I tried TrendMicro online scan but my internet freezes when it starts up so that doesn't work...

Other scans I have tried are Spybot and ewido anti-malware. Both couldn't find any viruses/worms, only cookies and etc.

So can someone please help and tell me if I have a virus or is my computer just not working? Thank you!

It could be both, but let's hope it isn't.

Firstly, get rid of Norton. It's full of cow dung, to put it simply, so chuck it out of your computer. Use a proper anti-virus like Avast or AVG Free Edition. You can download them for free from their sites.

Secondly, check with your ISP to make sure there are no problems on their side of the connection.

Last of all, I have a question for you. Are you on dial-up or broadband?

You need a good defence if a trojan barges into your territory.

I should have mentioned that Norton won't let me remove it off my HD in the Control Panel... The ISP should be okay as I can connect everywhere else and I am on a wireless connection. So yeah, broadband. Thank you for your suggestions... I'll try them out...

go to the Norton webpage and get the proper tools to get it off your system. If you don't remove it all, nothing else will work for you.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

XpUser4Real,
What if you were to install another anti-virus, though? Won't that automatically get rid of the previous anti-virus?

no, it won't automatically get rid of a previous AV. Norton and McAfee are the worst for that. If you don't clean out ALL the leftover files imbedded on the PC, you won't be able to use another AV.
Zone Alarm is another program that's hard to remove.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I disagree. I highly recommend Norton/Symantec and have never had any trouble with the products they manufacture.

You said " Everytime I try to log onto any of my e-mails on IE, it gives me "This Page Cannot be Displayed". What exactly are you attempting to load? Hotmail? Yahoo Mail? Can you be more specific.

sorry Jennifer SUMN, IMHO Norton has always been a resource hog and as you can see in many posts, that it will find problems but cannot remove them. I personally have removed Norton off alot of PC's and people used either Avast or AVG in it's place.

Ikui, try this free Active X On-line Spyware Scan
and remove all it finds

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

As a former user of Norton Anit-Virus, have to agree with XpUser4Real. All that Norton ever did was ask for updates and stuff up my computer. And no matter how often I updated it, it still found a way to let a virus onto my computer. It's completely useless! Of course, that was a while ago and Norton may have cleaned up their act since then. But I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole after my experiences with it.

Uh... I mean any e-mail... like any... ALL don't work... and Avast messed with some of my programs so I had to delete it. I'll try to delete Norton.
