Most anti-virus software companies update their customers with online notifications (McAfee, for example) and online download and installation.
Most probably, you're receiving email from people who are hawking something you don't want or need.
I'd say continue what you have been doing--delete them. 8-)

Absolutely right - anti virus companies DO NOT email notification of updates. Delete them without opening the emails since you are otherwise likely to receive perhaps what your anti virus program is attempting to defend you against!!

If you use Norton by any chance, it asks you if you want to be notified by e-mail, telephone, or postal mail by Symantec about updates and upgrades and such. You probably selected "I would like Symantec to e-mail me about important updates and upgrades." It should not be a surprise to you if you're using Norton.

Keep in mind though that if anyone did choose to be emailed by their antivirus company about updates and such.....They DON"T send updates through email; they only send a notification. The email definately should not have any attachment. If there is an attachment included in the email it is a virus.
