Comment:

My e-bank account had many thousands of pounds wiped out of it by hackers. At first the bank said they thought that it was something to do with my ISP being hacked and I was being key stroke logged at that end. Now they are saying it is a trojan on my computer. Despite running just about every concievable adware, spyware and virus scan software ( free versions) I havent come accross anthing other that the usual - bargain buddy etc. Using panda software online scan as recommended by bank I came accross twaintec which the bank say they are sure is the problem. However this is just another adware program. Im wondering if the problem was with the bank and they are just passing the buck.

Good news is they have refunded the money but does anyone have any ideas how my login details could have been acquired? Im running sygate firewall which appears to work well.

Hi

which e bank do you use?
as you know...
"Adware.Twaintec is a BHO (Browser Helper Object) that monitors web usage and sends this data to a remote server. This information is used to display pop-up advertisements" ,,from symantec web site.
,sounds like they are scrabbling for excuses.

btw if you use a firewall , good antivirus
and regularliy clean your pc of adaware
thats about all you can realistically do, the fact they have refunded money is a startling admission on their part!

if your bank acct contains 1000's of pounds spend a few on www.kaspersky.com av, zonealarm 5.5 ive yet to see a trojan not be caught by ZA alert.

http://reviews.cnet.com/ZoneAlarm_Pro_5_5/4505-3667_7-31162893-2.html?tag=top

(forget norton totally imo, just read a few of the posts here about it)

i also recomend www.ccleaner.com this little beaut does what it says on the tin,
& use options 'special folder'
to clean out regular basis temp files in
c:\windows\downloadedprogramfiles

add the following to your list of anti spyware:
adaware www.lavasoft, spybot search and destroy & spyware blaster

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

mean while change your bank.

regards

Thanks

have tried all the spy ware removal tools you mentioned and several virus sanners. is use AVG mostly which many friends have recommended as being better than Norton which is what I had before.

Never came accross anything other than the usual adware appart from MainPean which is a premium rate dialer.

Getting more and more convinced the bank know something they are not telling me. And yes I am changing my bank especially after a frustrating phone call today to its call centre in India. I might as well have been speaking to someone from the planet Zarg.

I can't apeak to the e-banking issue, but for a real bank with real people, Hong Kong & Shanhai has done a good job for a long time.

As such an issue is so serious my first thoughts would be to buy a new computer so that you were safe, or completely wipe your current machine and possible be caucous with media u place in it.

I have 2 e.bank accounts and been fine, i agree with ZoneAlarm Security suite as its great, i also run Sophos AV (Version5) and Microsofts Beta Spyware. Id advise doing the same before connecting to the internet with a clean pc.

I think if I were you, I'd run a keylogger specific remover, too, just to be safe.

This page has a list of keylogger killers. Some anti-spyare apps don't catch all the keylogers that are around.
