I have come across this E-Anthology "application" which seems more like a virus to me than anything useful on one of our customers pcs this morning. I have run the "Ad-Aware" program through which is usually very good at cleaning out spam but although finding most of the problem components it is still trying to run the "Stop-Sign" component. The uninstalls make out like they are working but don't and I have had to manually remove every associated folder and file I can find relating to this rubbish and just when I thought I had it nailed up pops the "Stop- Sign" crap again! The reason I got called in to look at this PC, and this is the weird bit, was because this user's e-mail had stopped working. Upon inspection of the account settings I found that the incoming and outgoing mail servers had been configured to an IP Address - 127.0.0.1 - which of course is a loopback address????? and the mail account had been renamed and the ports changed.....Weird. I asked the user if anyone had been touching any settings that he knew of which he didn't, and it certainly wouldn't have been the user because they only know how to read e-mail, browse the net and not much else. The only connection they could tell me was at about the same time the problem had started they had noticed this new "Stop" icon had appeared. Pretty dodgy stuff and I intend to get rid of it completely but thought I would post this on here as there doesn't seem to be much on the net regarding a good solution to a full removal of it. Hopefully someone might find a fix????

Ralf, there are some other references to this program at this forum using the search feature at the top of the page. Look for "Stop Sign" and "e anthology" for some more ideas on how to delete it. One user reported getting rid of it by using the Registry edit/HKEY_LOCAL_MAchine/SOFTWARE and then deleting the eAcelleration file. Then you can use the add/remove program in the control panel to uninstall it, otherwise it just keeps coming back. All the best!

Just click start and then run. Then, type "regedit.exe" and make the aforementioned changes. It worked for me.

I contacted eAnthology and I got the instructions from them on how to remove all the files. Here are the steps as to what to do...
(I skipped to #3 and it worked)
To manually remove eAnthology programs, please follow the steps below:

1) Open eAnthology Manager, and deactivate all of the features:
- Click Start > Programs > eAnthology > eAnthology Manager.
- Click on the Stop Sign Icon.
- Click on all tabs to deactivate each feature.
- Close eAnthology Manager.

2) Press CTRL-ALT-DEL once to bring up Task Manager:
- For Windows 95/98/ME: Look for "defscangui.exe" and press "End
Task".
- For Windows XP/NT/2000: Click on "Processes" tab, search for
"defscangui.exe" and press "End Process".

***Note***
If defscangui.exe is not found, skip to number 3.

3) Click Start, then Settings, and then Control Panel.
(In XP: Click Start > Control Panel.)

4) Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

5) Under the Install/Uninstall(or Add/Remove) tab, click eAnthology.
- Click the Add/Remove button(Select the programs you wish to
uninstall for newer versions: ) and click OK to approve the uninstall.

6) Also repeat the above step for eAnthology Download Receiver.

7) Reboot your computer.

8) Click Start, Programs, and then right-click on eAnthology, and then
choose the "Delete" option. Click "Yes" to confirm deletion.

If you have any problems with the above directions, please send an
email to mailto:support@eacceleration.com for action.
