Comment: If I encrypt a text message using say AbiCoder and attach to e mail, what is the degee of security in transit?Looking for an ad hoc solution without recourse to pgp.Would using this method via web mail be less secure?

Reply: (edit)the person you're sending it to will need the same program to be able to decrypt it. You should look into Digital ID's. If the person you're sending a file to has a digital ID, you can encrypt the file with his digital id. The person can then decrypt it. It's much simpler to do because all modern e-mail clients handle digital id's now.
