Hi All, does anyone know of a virus that will stop the drive working - (even though the power light is on)

Many thanks,

You should have posted this in the hardware forum. If the drive trays function that just means there is power. You also need the data cable to work. Open the case and check the connections on the IDE cable. Are either of the drives newly installed?

What OH said is good; as a direct answer to your question, "No".

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;
Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.

I have never heard of a virus rendering a DVD drive useless.

As for your second post that disappeared it is because Computing.net frown on anyone (myself included) double posting.

There isn't a problem with posting in the security forum. The issue is you have a hardware problem. The problem could be caused by a virus I suppose. Better chance of getting help when in the hardware forum.

I accidentally clicked on the security forum when intending to go to hardware. I am not an expert with security so I rarely visit there. All I'm saying is you should post in the forum that has the best chance of helping you.
