Hi,
Now, I am using 56k modem, but I would like to switch to DSL high-speed. However, the company will send a technician to my house to install it.

Is it secure by letting someone else to install the DSL in my computer?, will he spy on my computer?

Thanks

I don't know of any ISP that must come into your home to get you setup with DSL. Granted, they might have to pay a visit to the outside of your home they should not have to come in.

Now if they do have to come in it is your house. You can follow and watch all that they do and tell them to leave at anytime.

Even if they said they needed to install software they are not going to spy on you. If you have stuff on your computer that you feel would get you in trouble with the law you should then take a look in the mirror at yourself. I'm not accusing you of doing anything wrong but I do question you're reasons for feeling afraid.

Just install it yourself, as it's not hard, and besides if you are so concerned about personal security with your PC, you should take the time to learn all about it, and at least how to set it up and maintain, or then you are always going to have to rely and wonder if they are trustworthy.
Besides, ANYONE could spy on you, not just one with physical access like a technician, but remotely, and if you are not educated on how to prevent that, then you are vulnerable.

hi vic,
if the guy has to come in and install the modem, make sure you have a firewall already installed that way you will block any potential malware that the person may install.
better to be safe than sorry.
all the best,
murve
