Hey guys, I have this weird thing going on here. For no reason and on any program or just on the desktop, a drop down menu will appear and then starts scrolling down. Also, when I am on the web, it is like someone is clicking on the FILE menu and things start refreshing and the back button will be clicked along with other stuff.
Also, if I am at a search engine site things will be type in the search area box. It does not seem to be harmful, just annoying.
Any help would be appreciated!

Man, you got a backdoor trojan, and there is a person controlling your computer from a remote location. Disconnect from the internet NOW. This dude is probably searching for CC numbers, passwords and lord knows what else.
Update the indexes on your antivirus program and run it. If it doesn't find anything, go to Trend Micros website and run the free online virus scanner.

Now would be a excellent time to run a COMPLETE system scan on your computer!
Don't even hesitate. No norton anti-virus, use a free online virus scanner.
If your seeing results like this, it also would be a good idea to back up any information you want saved.
Along time ago before I joined the Marine Corps and became a network administrator I made little annoying Malware, and if it can screw with anything on your computer it is a major threat!!!
jOhn

But it does it while offline too ... it does the drop down thing .. everywhere .. in every program .. but only on occasion ..
hmmmmm
I will try the indexing though ...

hi pawnshop,
yes, as the lads above said you got an intruder who is master of your computer.
lets try this:
hit your run button, type in command, in the prompt box where you see the flashing cursor, type in netstat -an. the netstat box will open up with 4 columns. look at the foreign address column, if there is an ip address(s) there with a port number(s), note it down, follow the address(s) and look at the next column which is called state, if it says established, you now know you have been trojaned.
alright, now exit from netstat, go to www.thepublicworks.com, security section, and link to tantalo ports, from your notes that you took from netstat, do a search with the port number(s) that you have. if they come up positive, you will see the name of the particular trojan you have in your computer.
while at the publicworks, go to the payware section, link to trojan hunter, download free 30 day trial of trojan hunter, get the latest defs, also while at the trojan hunter site it would be a good idea to also download their free programs called netstat, and autoload explorer, these are great little tools. also get norton anti-virus' latest defs.
disable your system restore. reboot into safe mode, scan with anti-virus, anti-trojan, delete all files they come up with, clean your cache, temp files, history and cookie folders, recycle bin. reboot into normal mode, and re enable your system restore.
it would also be a good idea to download a free registry monitor called regprot and a free firewall if you are not using one.
all the best,
murve

hey ranchhand,
your pretty good yourself, keep up the good work!
that also goes for everyone who hangs out here to help.
all the best,
murve
