It's a part of Windows:

Description

"I know most of you all have heard of this before and most likely do not wish to tell me."

???

Not sure what you "know", but it would help considerably if you could try explaining the actual problem

I was using limewire and then it suddenly said that I had encountered a dr watson postmortem debbuger error, also it said there was an explorer error. I've heard that it may be an AceBot Virus. How can i get rid of it? Thanks for the help.

Dustin

If I were you, I'd be more focussed on getting rid of Limewire and less concerned about virus 'rumours'

As stated, it's a part of Windows, and it's purpose is explained in the link provided - it's telling you there's something wrong with your system - removing or disabling it would do nothing to alleviate whatever problem you are experiencing

It is possible to educate yourself y'know - there are reliable sources of information:

Acebot

Best defence is to not download from disreputable sources, and to have decent full time antivirus and security applications installed

If you don't have such things, you might try an online scan (until you do)

You may want to have a look at this guy's remarks (both pages) - apparently 'Acebot' is improbable

One instance of seeing "Dr Watson" is nothing in itself to panic about - however, if you are running your machine without adequate protection, and taking chances by downloading via Limewire etc, there's a very strong possibility your computer is compromised somehow (but probably in ways that you are unaware of)

To disable Dr. Watson

1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

2.Locate and click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug

NOTE: Steps three and four are optional, but they necessary if you want to restore the default use of Dr. Watson.

3.Click the AeDebug key, and then click Export Registry File on the Registry menu.

4.Enter a name and location for the saved registry file, and then click Save.

5.Delete the AeDebug key.
