Hi.

I was lucky enough to get the download.trojan the other night. I did all the things that the Symatec website and different users on this site said to do (restarting pc in safemode, etc...), but it didn't work.

When I ran Nortons in safemode, it did not detect the download.trojan so I wasn't able to delete anything.

When I rebooted again without safemode, things were the same. Pop-ups galore. Only this time, I couldn't get my IE to stay up for more than 30 seconds without shutting down with some kind of error. Also, my Windows Media Player won't open. The shortcut for it looks like an icon for a program setup.

I went to www.simplysup.com and downloaded the Trojan Remover from there. It found two files related to the download.trojan. I selected the option to refuse access and rename it. It rebooted my computer and when it scanned again, it found nothing.

No more abundance of pop-ups, but WMP still won't work.

Now, is this all I need to do, or is there more? Do you think the virus is actually gone or do I need to do something else?

I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think this Trojan gives pop-up's but it downloads (without you knowing) other files that do give pop-up's.

I would scan with the two free programs:-
Spybot & Ad-Aware (update them first).
Keyloggers, premium rate diallers and other bugs can be worse than pop-up's but you would not know about them until you got your bank statement or phone bill.

I am having trouble with "download.trojan also. I have gone though all the motions. I did what Norton said and it still comes back. I also tried some of the free virus checks on the web and nothing. I deleted everything in my "tempory internet" fold where it says this thing is. That works until I boot up again and the darn thing is back. I have Norton antivirus and zone alarm. This is a first for me. Usually Norton takes care of any virues. they say they can't get rid of the trojans though.

Has anyone come up with a solution?
I don't want to turn my restore option till I am sure this thing is gone.

I would appreciate any advice.

Rea

Yes...agree with you all. Same here "Nortons", "ZoneAlarmPro","System Mechaninic",and "Trojan Down Fix".

I've recently used "Ad-Ware 6.0","Spy Hunter",and "Spy-Bot". It seems to be doing the trick.

I think most of this might have started off of "KaZaA".

If your still having no luck...I recommend a fresh software rebuild...and get a copy of "Norton's System Works 2003 (with Ghost)" and make your own restore CD. (one click backups it's nice to have)

Downloader.Agent.T - Help!!!!

My problem seems a little different to the above, and please treat me like a novice! I had trouble accessing the Internet, where the Modem couldn't find a dialling tone, at the fourth or fifth attempt it was successful. Two hours later, and the re-dial had the same trouble, to the extent that it now doesn't work at all!

Having been logged onto the computer for 3 hours or so, my AVG Shield then advised me that I had the above Trojan, and that I should run the checker to get rid of it; this I did, but unfortunately it didn't find it!!

Went onto the AVG site, downloaded different Virus fixes, ran them all, even in Safe mode, but none of them found it.

If I've been logged on for more than 3 hours (or so it seems) my AVG Shield tells me I still have the damn Trojan, but the checker still can't find it. I also haven't been able to connect to the Internet since!!! Arghhhhhh

I've checked the phone line, that works. I've ran the XP Modem Diagnostic, it tells me the Modem is working. Is it this Trojan that's stopping my Modem from finding a ring tone (I know, that sounds stupid, a Trojan that doesn't allow you to access the Web!), or can it be that the Modem has burnt out without XP detecting it?

I have also noticed that I have 5 svchost.exe processes running, a couple being much larger in size to the others. Also, my PC seems to hang every now and again.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers.
