Hi, I was downloading the Divx Codec (free version) on www.divx.com to view a video. While installing the software, a pop up came up asking if I wanted to download the 'google toolbar.' At the same time, my Norton Antivirus (at the time it was 2002) alerted me that my machine was infected with the 'download.trojan' virus. The path of the trojan was C:/documents and settings/jules/local settings/temp/nsw16.tmp/nsisdl.dll NAV also said that it could not repair the file. I checked Symantec, followed the removal instructions and tried to find the file but it was not in my 'temp' file. I even called Dell and they walked me through everything and could not find the file. I did a disk clean up and everything. While checking my Zone Alarm Pro I did see this nsisdl.dll file under components...I removed it from permissions.
The question is, is my machine infected if the infected file is not there? is not found? Could it have just been deleted b/c it was in a 'temp' file? I have upgraded to NAV 2004 and run numerous scans and they have all come up clean. It's very disconcerting to not whether my machine is safe or not. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Are you sure that norton was telling you not to download that? A little hard to understand. And if you cannot find it, then it's not there.

try running a scan at housecall.antivirus.com
to double check.
i've had nav popup and say a file is infected in the temp folder. and when running a full scan it wasn't found. if you still had the version of nav that found it you could look in the quarantine list for it. if nav found it chances are it was deleted.
